Local Charms: Family Getaway to Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, Virginia
Finally, a getaway to somewhere, anywhere (just kidding…not really)! With not a whole lot of money or time, I needed to find a vacation spot in the DMV (Washington DC, Maryland and Virginia) area that was in our budget. A place near the water, whether it be a river, lake, pond, or a very large puddle is a must! Water relaxes me so it’s not a vacation for me without some water somewhere! After deciding that we wanted to take Deacon to Bush Gardens, I searched hotels right around the park and found Kingsmill Resort. This resort is located along the unbelievably expansive James River in Williamsburg, Virginia. There are a variety of activities and restaurants, as well as several types of accommodations to meet the needs of any group size.
I choose a deluxe guestroom since it was the cheapest option but it still offered a private balcony, mini fridge, and complimentary wi-fi. Other accommodations include a 1, 2 or 3 bedroom condo, 3 or 4 bedroom cottages, and private vacation homes. We stayed for three relaxing nights. The first night we settled in and grabbed dinner from one of the on-site restaurants, Eagles, which was pizza and wings. Don’t judge us, we were on vacation. The next day we were shuttled right next door (literally…I didn’t realize how close it was) to Bush Gardens by the complementary Kingsmill shuttle. That day also happened to be my birthday that we later celebrated at James Landing Grille, another one of Kingsmill’s five delicious restaurants that is known for its use of local seafood. The food was definitely fresh, I had the lobster roll with a side of grilled corn. It was so good! We spent the last day at the pool complex/bar area that features a lazy river pool, waterslide, and a zero-depth entry pool with fountains. Deacon absolutely loved it!
All in all this is a great resort. There’s plenty to do and the surroundings are so tranquil that even if all you do is nothing, that will be more than enough. I apologize for not getting more pictures but we were on vacation lol!
